The anticipation about The Game Awards was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—qualities that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously permissive, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can anticipate more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
